Swedish Trade Minister Borelius Resigns

Borelius, 46, came under intense pressure this week after Swedish media revealed she had hired a nanny in the 1990s without reporting it to tax authorities and paying the required employment fees.

She made matters worse by saying she couldn’t afford to hire a nanny legally, although tax records showed she and her husband had a combined income several times that of an average Swedish family.

Swedish cabinet toppling over unpaid TV fees

Cecilia Stego Chilo resigned today after a week of intense media pressure following the revelation that she had an unpaid TV licence bill estimated at 15,000 kronor (£1,160).

Since her job as culture minister includes overseeing policies concerning Sweden’s public service broadcaster, SVT, Ms Stego Chilo said she considered her position untenable.
